In the past few weeks we've been very busy playing the pre-alpha version of Spymaster, and even though lots of work remains, it's starting to feel very good! I'm happy to say we now have all the essentials in the game, and can get a taste of the experience as a whole.
One thing we've recently been paying special attention to is the behavior of the Gestapo "inspektors". We want you to perceive the perfect mix of surprise, predictability and pure menace. I can tell that in the games I've been playing recently the arrival of Gestapo inspektors is always a pulse-raising event! I hate them messing up with my operation, yet at the same time secretly love the challenge.
Let's say inspektor Brenner just appeared in Paris, the central hub of your French operations. Now you as the Allied spymaster have many choices to make. Will you keep Lucy transmitting intel from Paris, or should you switch that tell-tale radio off and lay low? Order Charlie and Lucy to leave town and in so doing sacrifice your local spy ring? Or stay a while to mop up the Paris operation to make sure there are no leads that would connect to your uncompromised networks in Vichy and Bordeaux? Hey maybe you want to fight Herr Brenner head-to-head? Why not, but in that case you had better bring a whole team of your top agents because the inspektors have vast resources at their disposal and are truly tough nuts to crack!
Disclaimer: Game development is an iterative process where things tend to change many times over before the game ships. That's a fancy way of saying that we can't promise any exact features discussed in this blog.
