FINALLY we found some time to have a board game night! Well, it actually turned out to be a card game night with what all the cool folks seem to be playing lately - Pathfinder: Rise of the Runelords.
I had such huge expectations that we could have this awesome roleplaying experience without anyone having to dedicate time for prepping & game mastering. I have to say my high hopes turned to disappointment during the game because unfortunately the rulebook is well obfuscated. I mean, come on, when have you seen a game rule FAQ start with this question: "I'm just generally unclear about a lot of things. Can you help?" :)
The other thing that I found almost completely missing was meaningful roleplaying party co-op. For me the whole point of RPG characters having different abilities, skills and items is that they can co-operate and complement each other's strengths and weaknesses. Yet in Pathfinder it seems that you have to pretty much face the monsters alone, even when your buddies are in the same location with you!
Ok so it wasn't perfect, but still, was fun to take some time off from the daily grind and do some gaming together. The following day Kalle also found a revised rulebook online, so maybe we'll give it another go one of these days. This game has so much potential, and I really really want to like it.
