What's the point of secretly controlling the fate of the world if you don't have a cool map to show it? None! That's (partly) why most of Spymaster will actually be played on a map showing the occupied Europe of 1940's.
So the real question is of course "but what should the map look and feel like"? After trying a out a lot of games with maps and making a few prototypes of our own, we are now working on one that's like a physical board build in a secret command bunker. Zooming in close we tilt the camera bit so you can see the perspective on the 3D continents and miniature models of your growing master plan.
But then what if you zoom out? We thought it would be double the cool if zooming out all the way actually shows the map table in a bunker so you get a real sense of scale and being the guy in charge!
These are only a few functional sketches to explain the idea behind what we are thinking about. Jarkko, our lead artist, is working on the map style whenever he has time and I'll make sure to share the results when it's starting to make shape!
